Celtic F.C. signed Shane Duffy on a season-long loan from Brighton in September 2020, a move that felt like a “boyhood dream” for him. He actually started brightly, scoring in his first two appearances. After that, his spell became one of the most debated of Celtic’s season: his form dipped as the team struggled, and he ended up a regular talking point for mistakes and defensive uncertainty. Celtic confirmed he returned to Brighton when the loan ended in May 2021, after what he described as a tough year.
