Neil Warnock managed Cardiff City from 2016 to 2019, arriving with the club struggling near the bottom of the Championship and quickly transforming their fortunes; after stabilising the Bluebirds in his first season, he masterminded an outstanding 2017–18 campaign, guiding Cardiff to second place and automatic promotion to the Premier League despite operating with fewer resources than many rivals; built around organisation, physicality and a strong team spirit, Warnock’s side featured key players such as Sean Morrison, Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett; Cardiff were relegated after one Premier League season, but Warnock remained hugely popular and left in November 2019 having delivered the eighth promotion of his managerial career.
