Willie Irvine is one of Burnley’s great 1960s forwards. A sharp, intelligent striker from Northern Ireland, he was best known for his movement, finishing and partnership with Andy Lochhead. His standout season came in 1965–66, when he finished as the First Division’s top scorer with 29 league goals. Burnley finished 3rd that season, with Irvine central to their attacking threat. He also played in Europe for the club and earned Northern Ireland caps. Though injuries affected parts of his career, Irvine remains a major Clarets figure from Burnley’s strong post-war era.
