Burnley’s 1959–60 season is one of the greatest in the club’s history because it ended with the First Division title under Harry Potts. They were not favourites against bigger names like Tottenham and Wolves, but Burnley stayed in the race and won the championship on the final day, beating Manchester City 2–1. It was only Burnley’s second top-flight title and their first for 39 years. The side was known for teamwork, smart coaching, and progressive ideas rather than huge spending. John Connelly was the top scorer with 24 goals, and the title became the defining achievement of Burnley’s post-war golden era.
