Tom Ritchie was a key Bristol City striker during the club’s 1970s golden era. A strong, intelligent centre-forward, he led the line in Alan Dicks’ side and played a major role in City’s promotion to the First Division in 1976. Ritchie was known for his work rate, link-up play and important goals rather than just pure scoring numbers. He featured heavily during City’s four seasons in the top flight and formed part of a memorable core alongside Gerry Gow, Geoff Merrick, Gerry Sweeney and Chris Garland. He remains one of Ashton Gate’s respected figures from City’s best post-war period.
