Bristol City won the 1986 Freight Rover Trophy in a huge Wembley moment for the club. City beat Bolton Wanderers 3–0 in the final, with goals from Howard Pritchard, Rob Newman and Glyn Riley. The victory mattered because City had recently come through severe financial trouble and near-collapse in 1982. Winning at Wembley gave supporters a major lift and symbolised the club’s recovery. Managed by Terry Cooper, City combined young players, resilience and strong team spirit. The trophy became one of the defining moments of Bristol City’s 1980s rebuild.
