Mark Lawrenson played for Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. from 1977 to 1981, making over 150 league appearances after joining from Preston North End. He was instrumental in helping Brighton win promotion to the First Division in 1979 and quickly established himself as one of England's finest defenders. His composed style, versatility and reading of the game earned him a then club-record move to Liverpool F.C. in 1981, where he became one of the most decorated defenders of his generation. Lawrenson's outstanding performances at Brighton laid the foundation for his legendary career and ensure he remains one of the Seagulls' greatest-ever players.
