Roberto Carlos’ free kick against France in 1997 is one of the most unbelievable goals ever scored. From nearly 35 yards out and far to the left, he struck the ball with the outside of his left foot. It seemed to be flying wide before violently swerving back into the far post, leaving goalkeeper Fabien Barthez completely stunned. The extreme curve defied physics and amazed the football world. Scored in the opening of the Tournoi de France, the goal became legendary, symbolising Roberto Carlos’ power, technique, and ability to do the impossible with a football.
