Lars Ricken was a classic Borussia Dortmund home-grown hero. Born in Dortmund, he spent his entire professional playing career at BVB and became known for intelligence, timing, and a knack for huge moments. His most famous contribution came in the 1997 Champions League final, when he scored just 16 seconds after coming on as a substitute in Dortmund’s 3–1 win over Juventus. He also won three Bundesliga titles and the 1997 Intercontinental Cup with the club. Dortmund’s official site now notes that he has served as the club’s Managing Director for Sport since 1 May 2024, extending his influence beyond his playing days.
