Adi Preißler was one of Borussia Dortmund’s foundational legends. A centre-forward, he played in BVB’s early great era and remains the club’s all-time top scorer, with 177 goals according to historical records. He helped Dortmund win the German championship in 1956 and 1957, and he was such a central figure that the club still treats him as one of its defining names. Borussia Dortmund’s history pages also show how iconic he remains: the club’s academy is on Adi-Preißler-Allee, and his famous quote about football theory versus what happens on the pitch is still widely used around BVB.
