Júlio César was an important Borussia Dortmund defender in the mid-1990s. The Brazilian centre-back joined in 1994 and became the first Brazilian to play for BVB, giving the side power, experience, and composure at the back. Dortmund’s club media describe him as a “giant defender,” and he helped the club win back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 1994–95 and 1995–96. He was also part of the 1996–97 Champions League-winning squad and the team that won the 1997 Intercontinental Cup, where BVB’s own history piece highlights how he motivated the team before the match. He is remembered as a strong, influential figure in a golden Dortmund era.
