Borussia Dortmund’s 2011–12 Bundesliga title was the peak of Jürgen Klopp’s first great BVB side. They did not just retain the league, they won it in record style, finishing on 81 points and completing the club’s first-ever league and cup double that season. The team was built on aggressive pressing, speed, and chemistry. Key players included Robert Lewandowski, Shinji Kagawa, Mats Hummels, Neven Subotić, Lukasz Piszczek, Marcel Schmelzer, captain Sebastian Kehl, and new midfielder İlkay Gündoğan. Lewandowski finished as Dortmund’s top Bundesliga scorer with 22 goals. Dortmund sealed the title on 21 April 2012 with a 2–0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, through goals from Ivan Perišić and Kagawa. It confirmed BVB as Germany’s best side at that moment, not just an exciting challenger.
