Borussia Dortmund’s 1997 Champions League win was the biggest night in the club’s history. They beat defending champions Juventus 3–1 in the final on 28 May 1997 at the Olympiastadion in Munich, with Karl-Heinz Riedle scoring twice and substitute Lars Ricken adding the iconic third almost immediately after coming on. Juventus pulled one back through Alessandro Del Piero, but Dortmund held firm to lift their first European Cup. UEFA’s season history calls Dortmund the winners of the 1996/97 competition, and both UEFA and Dortmund’s own history pages highlight the 3–1 final as the club’s defining European triumph.
