Borussia Dortmund’s 1997 Intercontinental Cup win was one of the biggest nights in the club’s history. On 2 December 1997 in Tokyo, BVB beat Cruzeiro 2–0 to become world champions, with Michael Zorc scoring in the 34th minute and Heiko Herrlich adding the second in the 85th. Dortmund’s own historical account describes a shaky start before they settled, took control, and finished strongly after Cruzeiro went down to 10 men late on. It completed a remarkable year after their 1997 Champions League triumph and remains Dortmund’s only Intercontinental Cup title. Andreas Möller was named man of the match.
