Borussia Dortmund’s 1966 Cup Winners’ Cup triumph was one of the biggest moments in the club’s history. On 5 May 1966 at Hampden Park in Glasgow, BVB beat Liverpool 2–1 after extra time in the final. Sigfried Held gave Dortmund the lead, Roger Hunt equalised for Liverpool, and Reinhard Libuda scored the winner in extra time. It made Dortmund the first German club to win a major European trophy. The run itself was impressive too: they got past Floriana, CSKA Sofia, Atlético Madrid, and West Ham before reaching the final. The win is still remembered as one of Dortmund’s true founding legends in Europe.
