Diego Maradona had two spells with Boca Juniors, and both are deeply woven into his legend. His first run was 1981: he arrived as a superstar, instantly lit up La Bombonera, and helped Boca win the 1981 Metropolitano—one of the most cherished titles in club history. He later returned 1995–1997 for an emotional homecoming near the end of his career. That second spell had flashes of brilliance but was also shaped by controversy and fitness issues, before he retired in 1997.
