Barry Fry managed Birmingham City from December 1993 to May 1996, arriving from Southend United during a turbulent period for the club. Birmingham were relegated in his first season, but Fry immediately bounced back in 1994–95, winning the Second Division title and the Football League Trophy at Wembley, where Paul Tait’s golden goal beat Carlisle United. Fry was a larger-than-life, passionate manager known for constant transfer activity and an unpredictable style; he used 47 players in his final season alone. Birmingham reached the League Cup semi-finals in 1995–96, but a 15th-place league finish led to his dismissal, with Trevor Francis replacing him.
