Trevor Francis is one of Birmingham City’s biggest-ever names, as both a player and later a manager. He burst through as a teenager, making his Blues debut in 1970 aged 16, and became the club’s star forward through the 1970s. He scored 119 goals in 280 appearances before leaving in 1979 in a British-record deal to Nottingham Forest, becoming football’s first “million-pound player.” He returned as manager (1996–2001), taking Birmingham into the play-offs repeatedly and reaching the 2001 League Cup final (lost on pens to Liverpool).
