Sepp Maier was Bayern Munich’s great goalkeeper before Oliver Kahn and Manuel Neuer. Known as “The Cat from Anzing,” he spent his entire top-level career at Bayern and became a symbol of consistency, reflexes, and personality. Maier made 473 Bundesliga appearances for the club, including a record long consecutive run, and helped lead Bayern’s rise into a major European force. He won four Bundesliga titles, four DFB-Pokals, the 1967 Cup Winners’ Cup, three straight European Cups from 1974 to 1976, and the 1976 Intercontinental Cup. He is widely regarded as one of Bayern’s greatest-ever players and one of Germany’s finest goalkeepers.
