Oliver Kahn was Bayern Munich’s defining goalkeeper in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He joined from Karlsruhe in 1994 and became the team’s emotional leader, known for fierce competitiveness, command of the box, and big-game mentality. With Bayern, he won multiple Bundesliga titles, several DFB-Pokals, the 2001 Champions League, and the 2001 Intercontinental Cup. He was especially vital in the 2001 Champions League final, where his penalty shootout saves beat Valencia. Kahn captained Bayern for years and symbolized their ruthless winning culture. By the time he retired in 2008, he was regarded as one of the club’s greatest-ever players.
