Thomas Helmer was an important Bayern Munich defender in the 1990s. He played for Bayern from 1992 to 1999, captained the team for two years, and was valued for composure, positioning, and leadership at the back. Bayern’s official site highlights him as a central defender who missed only 10 minutes of Germany’s Euro 1996-winning campaign while he was a Bayern player, which reflects how highly he was regarded at his peak. At club level, he was part of the side that won the 1995–96 UEFA Cup, even scoring in the first leg of the final against Bordeaux. He is remembered as a reliable, authoritative figure in a strong Bayern era.
