Franz Beckenbauer was arguably the most important figure in Bayern Munich’s history. A Munich-born academy product, he helped take Bayern into the Bundesliga in 1965 and became the symbol of the club’s rise, redefining the libero role with elegance, authority, and vision. Bayern’s Hall of Fame credits him with four Bundesliga titles, four DFB-Pokals, the 1967 Cup Winners’ Cup, three straight European Cups from 1974 to 1976, and the 1976 Intercontinental Cup as a player. He later also served Bayern as coach, president, and senior club figure, which is why “Der Kaiser” is seen as the club’s ultimate legend.
