Bayern Munich’s 2001 Champions League win was one of the most dramatic nights in the club’s history. Bayern beat Valencia 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw in the final at San Siro on 23 May 2001. The match was tense and scrappy, with both goals coming from penalties in normal time, but Oliver Kahn became the hero by saving three spot-kicks in the shootout. Bayern’s official history lists it as the club’s fourth European Cup and their first in 25 years under Ottmar Hitzfeld. More than just a trophy, it felt like redemption after the heartbreak of losing the 1999 final.
