Lionel Messi’s header against Manchester United in the 2009 Champions League final is one of the most iconic goals of his career. In Rome, with Barcelona leading 1–0, a looping cross came into the box. Despite being only 5’7” and surrounded by taller defenders, Messi timed his run perfectly and powered a header over Edwin van der Sar. The goal made it 2–0 and effectively sealed Barcelona’s victory. It was Messi’s first headed goal in a major final and symbolised his all-round brilliance, completing Barcelona’s historic treble under Pep Guardiola.
