Diego Maradona at FC Barcelona (1982–84) was a mix of brilliance and chaos. Signed as a global superstar after the 1982 World Cup, he produced constant flashes of genius and strong scoring numbers, but his spell was repeatedly disrupted. He missed time with illness (hepatitis) and suffered a serious ankle injury after a brutal tackle by Andoni Goikoetxea. Barcelona still won cups with him, yet tensions and controversy peaked in the infamous 1984 Copa del Rey final brawl vs Athletic Club, and he soon left for Napoli.
