Diego Maradona joined FC Barcelona in 1982 as the world’s biggest star, but his two seasons (1982–84) were chaotic and injury-hit. He still produced magic—scoring 38 goals in 58 matches—and won three trophies: the 1983 Copa del Rey, 1983 Copa de la Liga, and 1983 Spanish Super Cup. His time was disrupted by illness (hepatitis) and a brutal tackle from Andoni Goikoetxea in September 1983 that fractured his ankle. It ended explosively after the 1984 Copa del Rey final brawl vs Athletic Club, shortly before he left for Napoli.
