Deco (Anderson Luís de Souza) was a key midfielder for Barcelona from 2004–2008, arriving after winning the Champions League with Porto. At his best he was a complete organiser: press-resistant on the half-turn, able to dictate tempo, connect midfield to attack, and strike from range. He was central to Barça’s 2004–05 and 2005–06 La Liga titles and the 2006 Champions League win, featuring heavily as the team evolved under Frank Rijkaard. Barcelona’s official “Barça Legends” profile credits him with 161 appearances and 20 goals. After retiring, Deco returned to the club in an executive role and was appointed sporting director in August 2023 on a three-year deal.
