Sergio Busquets was Barcelona’s tactical anchor for 15 seasons (first team 2008–2023), the definitive “pivot” in the modern Barça model. He wasn’t about athletic dominance; his edge was positioning, scanning, and one- and two-touch passing that kept possession secure and set pressing traps when the ball was lost. Under Guardiola and beyond, he balanced the whole structure—dropping between centre-backs in build-up, screening counters, and feeding Xavi/Iniesta/Messi in the right zones. He won everything at the club, including multiple La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues (2009, 2011, 2015), before leaving in 2023.
