Éric Abidal played for Barcelona from 2007 to 2013, mostly at left-back and occasionally at centre-back. He was valued for elite 1v1 defending, recovery pace, and the tactical discipline that balanced Barça’s attacking shape in the Guardiola era. Abidal won major honours including multiple La Liga titles and the Champions League in 2009 and 2011. His Barcelona story is inseparable from his health battles: he was diagnosed with a liver tumour in 2011, returned to play, then underwent a liver transplant in 2012, before eventually leaving the club. A defining image is him captaining Barça late in the 2011 Champions League final.
