Peter Price (1932–2015) is Ayr United’s iconic No.9 and record goalscorer. A prolific centre-forward from Tarbolton, he signed for the Honest Men on 1 June 1955 and played at Somerset Park until 1962, becoming the defining finisher of that era. Club records list 213 goals in 251 appearances for Ayr United, a strike rate that still sets the benchmark. His name remains shorthand for ruthless box finishing in Ayr folklore—and the standard every modern striker gets measured against.
