Ian McCall managed Ayr United from 2015 to 2019, overseeing one of the club’s most entertaining modern periods; he guided the Honest Men to promotion from League One in 2015–16, and after relegation rebuilt an exciting attacking side that won the League One title in 2017–18; featuring players such as Lawrence Shankland, Alan Forrest and Michael Moffat, Ayr then mounted an impressive Championship promotion challenge, briefly topping the division, before McCall left for Partick Thistle in 2019.
