Emiliano Martínez is Aston Villa’s Argentine first-choice goalkeeper, signed from Arsenal on 16 September 2020 for around £20 million. He made an immediate impact, saving a penalty on his debut and equalling Villa’s clean-sheet record in his first Premier League season, later being named the club’s Supporters’ Player of the Season. Martinez extended his contract in January 2022 through 2026–27 and switched to his Argentina shirt number 23 in 2024. He’s broken club records for clean sheets in his early Villa career, helped the club in Europe, and remains a key figure between the posts.
