Mohamed Salah’s spell at AS Roma (2015–2017) was the launchpad for his world-class peak. After leaving Chelsea, he arrived first on loan (then permanently) and immediately became one of Serie A’s most dangerous wide forwards. Roma used his blistering pace on the counter, with Salah attacking the space behind defences and improving his end product. He formed a lethal partnership with players like Francesco Totti and Edin Džeko, piling up goals and assists and becoming a fan favourite. By 2016–17 he’d hit elite numbers, convincing Liverpool to sign him in summer 2017—where he exploded into a superstar.
