Paul Sheerin became an important figure in Arbroath’s modern history after arriving as player-manager in 2010, immediately guiding the Red Lichties to the Scottish Third Division title in 2010–11, the club’s first national league championship; an experienced and technically gifted midfielder, Sheerin combined playing duties with management and built an attacking side featuring goalscorers such as Steven Doris, before establishing Arbroath in the Second Division and taking them close to another promotion; he remained at Gayfield until 2014, when he left to join Aberdeen’s coaching staff, with his championship success ensuring his place among Arbroath’s notable modern managers.
