Paolo Maldini was AC Milan’s ultimate one-club icon. Milan’s official legends profile says he played 902 official matches and won 26 trophies across 25 years with the first team after debuting on 20 January 1985. He was defined by elegance, positioning, calm defending, and leadership rather than drama. Starting as a world-class left-back and later becoming an elite centre-back, he anchored multiple great Milan eras under Arrigo Sacchi, Fabio Capello, Alberto Zaccheroni, and Carlo Ancelotti. Milan also note that he inherited the captaincy from Franco Baresi in 1997. More than the trophies, Maldini came to represent Milan’s identity: class, loyalty, and defensive excellence.
