Gianluigi Donnarumma was AC Milan’s teenage goalkeeper phenomenon and one of the club’s biggest modern academy success stories. He made his first-team debut on 25 October 2015 at just 16 years and eight months, becoming the youngest goalkeeper to start a Serie A match for Milan, and quickly established himself as the team’s first choice. He was known for reflexes, reach, composure, and maturity far beyond his age. By 2021, Milan were describing him as a cornerstone and leader of the side. His exit that summer was controversial, but at his best he represented Milan’s future and carried huge responsibility very young.
