Marcel Desailly was a hugely important AC Milan player in the mid-1990s. Signed from Marseille in 1993, he added power, intelligence, and versatility, playing in midfield as well as defence. Milan’s official legends page says he was an essential pillar of Fabio Capello’s side that won the 1993–94 Serie A and European Cup double, and he even scored in the 4–0 Champions League final win over Barcelona in Athens. Across his Milan years, he won two Serie A titles, the Champions League, the 1994 Supercoppa Italiana, and the 1994 European Super Cup. He is remembered as one of Milan’s great modern defensive leaders.
