Franco Baresi was AC Milan’s defensive symbol and one of the greatest centre-backs ever. Milan’s official Hall of Fame says he joined the first team in 1977–78, stayed loyal through every phase of the club’s rise and struggle, and retired with 719 official matches plus six Serie A titles and three European Cups. What made Baresi special was anticipation, positioning, composure, and leadership rather than size or flash. He captained Milan through the Sacchi and Capello eras and came to represent the club’s identity as much as any player ever has. Milan also named him Honorary Vice-President in 2020, and in 2024 made him the first official inductee into the club’s Hall of Fame, which shows how central he still is to Rossoneri history.
