AC Milan’s 2003 Champions League win was gritty rather than glamorous. On 28 May 2003 at Old Trafford, Milan beat Juventus 3–2 on penalties after a 0–0 draw in the first all-Italian European Cup final. UEFA records it as Milan’s sixth European Cup, with Andriy Shevchenko scoring the winning penalty. Milan’s own retrospective still frames that night as unforgettable, while the match is also remembered for Dida’s shootout saves and Paolo Maldini’s leadership at the back. It was Carlo Ancelotti’s first Champions League as Milan coach and the clearest sign that his side could win the biggest matches through control, discipline, and nerve.
