AC Milan’s 1989 European Cup win was the moment Arrigo Sacchi’s great side announced itself to Europe. In the final on 24 May 1989 at Camp Nou in Barcelona, Milan crushed Steaua București 4–0, with two goals each from Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten. UEFA and Milan’s own history both frame it as a stylish return to the top, giving the club its third European Cup and first in two decades. The performance mattered as much as the result: intense pressing, coordinated defending, and elite Dutch-led attacking quality made Milan look far ahead of their time. It is still seen as one of the club’s defining European nights.
