Frank Lampard came through West Ham’s academy and broke into the first team in the mid-1990s, becoming one of the standout products of the club’s “Academy of Football” era. He made his Premier League debut as a teenager and went on to score 24 Premier League goals in 148 appearances for West Ham before leaving for Chelsea in 2001. At West Ham he was known for energy, timing of runs into the box, and improving goalscoring from midfield. Although he became a much bigger star elsewhere, his West Ham spell was the foundation of his career and part of Harry Redknapp’s talented late-1990s side.
