Eyal Berkovic was a gifted but divisive figure in West Ham United’s late-1990s side. An inventive attacking midfielder, he brought flair, vision, and precise passing, often helping unlock defences with clever through balls and technical quality. Signed from Southampton in 1999, he was part of a talented West Ham squad that included Paolo Di Canio, Joe Cole, and Frank Lampard. Berkovic’s ability on the ball was obvious, but his time at the club was relatively short and sometimes overshadowed by inconsistency and dressing-room tension. Even so, at his best he added creativity and style, and remains a memorable player from that era.
