One of the most dramatic moments in English football history came in May 2013, when Watford FC faced Leicester City FC in the Championship play-off semi-final second leg at Vicarage Road. With the tie level late on, Leicester were awarded a penalty in stoppage time. Anthony Knockaert saw his initial effort saved by Manuel Almunia, who also blocked the rebound. Watford immediately broke forward, with Fernando Forestieri crossing for Troy Deeney to smash home the winner just seconds later. The goal sealed a 3–1 win on the night (3–2 on aggregate), sparking wild celebrations as fans flooded the pitch. It’s widely remembered simply as “Deeney vs Leicester” and is often cited as one of the greatest endings to a match ever.
