Aidy Boothroyd managed Watford from 2005 to 2008 and quickly became a defining figure for the club. He took over with Watford struggling in the Championship, then led them to promotion to the Premier League via the 2006 play-offs, built on direct, physical football, strong organisation, and high intensity. The Premier League season was difficult, ending in relegation, but Watford also reached the 2007 FA Cup semi-final. His style divided opinion, but he gave the club momentum, belief, and a clear identity during a turbulent period.
