Waterford’s 2017 season was a promotion year that felt like a reset for the club. Managed by Alan Reynolds, they won the League of Ireland First Division, sealing promotion back to the top flight for the first time in 10 years. The title was confirmed in mid-September after a 3–0 win over Wexford, with promotion secured two games early. They finished the league campaign with 59 points from 28 matches, losing only three times, which shows how consistent they were across the season. In simple terms, 2017 was about rebuilding belief, dominating the division, and putting Waterford back in the Premier Division.
