James Tavernier is one of the most influential players in the modern history of Rangers F.C.. Since joining Rangers in 2015, he has become a long-serving captain and a key figure in the club’s resurgence. Renowned for his leadership, attacking runs, crossing and set-piece ability, Tavernier has produced goalscoring numbers rarely seen from a defender. His finest achievement came in the 2020–21 season when he captained Rangers to their historic 55th Scottish league title, ending Celtic’s nine-year dominance and completing an unbeaten league campaign. He was also instrumental in Rangers reaching the 2022 UEFA Europa League Final, finishing as the competition’s top scorer despite playing at right-back. With well over 100 goals for the club, Tavernier has established himself as one of Rangers’ most productive and consistent players. His longevity, professionalism and success as captain have earned him a place alongside the club’s most respected modern leaders, making him a favourite among the Ibrox support and a significant figure in Rangers history.
