Brian Clough led Nottingham Forest to back-to-back European Cups, one of the most remarkable feats in club football. 1979 European Cup (Forest 1–0 Malmö, Munich): Forest won the final at the Olympiastadion on 30 May 1979, with Trevor Francis scoring the only goal just before half-time. 1980 European Cup (Forest 1–0 Hamburg, Madrid): Forest retained the trophy on 28 May 1980 at the Santiago Bernabéu. John Robertson scored early, and Peter Shilton’s saves preserved the lead. Clough, working closely with Peter Taylor, built a disciplined, mentally tough side—strong down the spine, dangerous from wide delivery, and comfortable winning tight knockout games—turning a recently promoted club into European champions twice.
