Steve Chettle was a Nottingham Forest academy product who became a long-serving first-team defender across 1986–1999, making 415 league appearances (11 goals) and 528 total appearances for the club. He was part of Forest’s late-Clough era and the strong early-1990s side, winning the League Cup in 1989 and 1990, and featuring in the 1991 FA Cup final defeat to Tottenham. Often used at centre-back or right-back, Chettle was valued for reliability, leadership, and consistency—an “unsung” stalwart of Forest’s top-flight years.
