Newcastle United’s 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup win remains the club’s landmark European triumph. In a two-leg final vs Újpesti Dózsa, they took control at St James' Park with a 3–0 first-leg win—captain Bobby Moncur scored twice and Jim Scott added a third—then sealed it 6–2 on aggregate with a 3–2 victory in Budapest at Megyeri úti Stadium. Played on 29 May and 11 June 1969, it was managed by Joe Harvey. United reached the final after beating sides including Feyenoord, Sporting CP and Rangers.
