Rafa Benítez managed Newcastle United from March 2016 to June 2019, and he’s remembered as the coach who restored pride and structure at St James’ Park. He arrived mid-relegation scrap and couldn’t keep them up, but crucially stayed, rebuilt the squad, and won the 2016–17 Championship title to take Newcastle straight back up. In the Premier League he made Newcastle hard to beat, organised, and more consistent than the chaos around the club suggested. His spell ended when his contract expired in June 2019, with talks over ambition and resources widely seen as the sticking point.
